Javier Calleja is a Spanish artist born in 1971 in Malaga.

He studied Fine Arts at the University of Granada, then moved back to Malaga, the city where he still lives and works today.

Javier Calleja's drawings take us into a figurative universe full of naivety. The artist draws inspiration from childhood, instilling a sense of innocence in his compositions.

But in the background, criticism is never far away. Without taking a pessimistic view of the current world, Javiers Calleja observes and reflects.

His work has been the subject of about fifteen solo exhibitions, as well as numerous group exhibitions, in Spain but also in France, the United States, Germany, Switzerland and Lebanon. His drawings have won awards three times, such as in 2014, when the artist received the first DKV Prize for the best Spanish artist at the Barcelona Contemporary Art Fair.
