Banksy
Banksy is an anonymous graffiti artist, political activist and filmmaker based in England.
His satirical and subversive street epigrams combine dark humor and graffiti executed in a distinctive stencil technique. His works of political and social commentary have been featured on the streets, walls and bridges of cities around the world.
Banksy's work emerged from Bristol's underground scene, which involved collaborations between artists and musicians. Banksy says he was inspired by 3D, a graffiti artist who became a founding member of the English band Massive Attack.
Banksy created the documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop,” considered the “world’s first street art disaster film,” which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010.
The film was released in the UK on 5 March 2010.
In January 2011, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for the film.
In 2014, he was named Person of the Year at the 2014 Webby Awards.
