Javier Calleja is a Spanish artist born in 1971 in Malaga.
He studied Fine Arts at the University of Granada, then moved back to Malaga, where he still lives and works today.
Javier Calleja’s drawings take us into a figurative universe full of naivety. The artist is inspired by childhood, infusing an impression of innocence into his compositions.
But in the background, criticism is never far away. Without taking a pessimistic look at the current world, Javiers Calleja observes and reflects.
His work has been the subject of some fifteen solo exhibitions, as well as numerous group exhibitions in Spain, France, the United States, Germany, Switzerland and Lebanon. Three times his drawings have been awarded, such as in 2014, when the artist received the first DKV Prize for the best Spanish artist at the Barcelona Contemporary Art Fair.
