Banksy
Banksy is an anonymous graffiti artist, political activist and filmmaker based in England.
His satirical and subversive street epigrams combine dark humor and graffiti executed in a distinctive stencil technique. His works of political and social commentary have been featured on the streets, walls and bridges of cities around the world.
Banksy's work originated in the Bristol underground scene, which involved collaborations between artists and musicians. Banksy says he was inspired by 3D, a graffiti artist who became a founding member of the English music group Massive Attack.
Banksy created the documentary "Exit Through the Gift Shop," considered the "world's first street art disaster film," which debuted at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.
The film was released in the UK on March 5, 2010.
In January 2011, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary for the film.
In 2014, he was named Personality of the Year at the 2014 Webby Awards.
